Judith Ann Tisch

Judy lived a life rich in faith, family, music, and artistic expression. Together, she and her beloved husband of 65 years, David George Tisch, raised a beautiful family. Her love for God and the gifts He gave her were woven into everything she did. As a musician, artist, dancer, and actress, Judy brought beauty, creativity, and joy to those around her.

Judy’s greatest legacy is the family she and Dave built and the many lives she touched through her teaching, music, and faith. She will be deeply missed, but her family takes comfort in knowing that she is now at peace and reunited in Heaven with her parents, Arthur and Rose Richard; her siblings, John, Robert, Thomas, Patricia, and Joseph; her beloved grandchild, Annie; and her beloved son, David George Tisch, Jr.

She is survived by her loving husband, David, and her children: Richard Arthur Tisch (Jennifer Tisch); Susan Marie Brown (Thomas Brown); Paul Joseph Tisch (Debbie Tisch); Elizabeth Rose Sherman (John Sherman); and Carmen Marie Goodwin (Jeff Goodwin). She is also survived by her sister Dorothy and her husband Dr. Gary Marsiglia.

She leaves behind 14 grandchildren: Ryan, Joseph, Avery, Tommy, Jake, James David (J.D.), Julia, Paul Joseph (P.J.), Emma, Bradley, Savannah, Jeffrey, Gabe, and Angel; and six great-grandchildren: Jase, Kohala, Amber, Elowyn, Michael, and Grace.

Judy was born on October 3, 1940, in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Throughout her youth, she attended Marywood Academy, where she studied music and ballet. She earned a bachelor’s degree in music from Aquinas College and a master’s degree in music from Western Michigan University. She continued her lifelong pursuit of musical and liturgical knowledge through classes at the University of Notre Dame and the University of Vermont.

Music was not simply a profession for Judy; it was one of the ways she expressed her faith and connected with others. She served as a music and choir director at numerous Catholic parishes and taught music at elementary, middle, and high schools in Michigan. She also participated in Civic Theatre productions.

In 1981, Judy and Dave moved their family from Muskegon, Michigan, to Spring, Texas. Judy taught music in the Spring Independent School District, where she was honored one year as Teacher of the Year. She also served as music director at Christ the Good Shepherd, Prince of Peace, and St. Ignatius Catholic churches in Spring.

One of the highlights of Judy’s musical life was creating a choir that was invited to sing at St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome a testament to her remarkable musical gifts and dedication.

During the final several years of her life, Judy and Dave lived at Brookdale Assisted Living Facility in Houston. Even there, she continued to share her gifts by creating a choir for the residents. Music remained a source of purpose, connection, and joy.

Judy will be remembered for her deep faith, her artistic spirit, her dedication to teaching, and—most of all—her love for her family. Her influence will continue through her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, students, and all those who were fortunate enough to know her. Her life was a gift, and her beautiful legacy will live on.
