Texas oilman, business owner and gentleman, Joe Harris Amberson entered the heavenly gates of heaven on March 17, 2025. Born on February 12, 1932 in San Antonio, TX to the late Joe Amberson Sr. and Olga Fehrenbach Amberson. Joe started out in the ranching business of his family which included the famous La Perla ranch now owned by Exxon Mobil. After attending San Antonio Academy and University of Texas. He started building apartments and office buildings in San Antonio until 1976 when he moved to Houston where he met his great love and second wife Barbara Van Postman. Joe continued his career in the oil and natural gas business until retirement 9 years ago.
Joe was a supporter of the arts and animal causes in Houston. He was a member of the Argyle Club in San Antonio. He loved opera and enjoyed his friendship with the Great Tenor Placido Domingo. As a young man he enjoyed flying his family plane and was an avid skeet shooter.
Joe is preceded in death by his late parents, grandson Harris Degnan and granddaughter Lulu Moore. He leaves behind 6 children, 12 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren and longtime friend and former wife Barbara. As well as many friends who respected and loved Joe very much.
A celebration of Joe's incredible life will be at 2pm on Wednesday, April 30, 2025 at St. Martin's Chapel, 717 Sage Rd. at Woodway Dr.
