1944-2017
Jose (Uncle Joe) Vera passed away, quite unexpectedly on Saturday December 9th, 2017. He leaves his wife of 50 years, Margot Vera; a son, Jose Jaime (Joey) Vera; a daughter, Marisa Zellner; a brother, Abel Vera; a sister, Anna Leeah; 3 grandsons, Jose Jaime (little Joey), Adrian and Jeremy Vera; a granddaughter, Xiola Zellner; nephews, Alfredo (Fred) Vera, John Trevor and Aaron Leeah; and a niece, Marina Leeah; an extended family consisting of nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, a sister in law and several brothers in law. He is preceded in death by a brother, Michael Vera.
A celebration of Life with family and friends will be held Saturday, December 16th, 2017.
Jose was born in Kingsville, Texas on January 30, 1944 to Abel and Amelia Vera. He graduated from King High School, attended Texas A & I University in Kingsville; he served in the United States Air Force from 1964 – 1968. After his military service, he worked at Nasa as a Mechanical Engineer for contractors until retirement in 2013.
Gardening, listening to music, grilling, and smoking briskets in his backyard; meeting people; telling jokes; hosting parties; spending time with friends, family and relatives and going to Jazz Fest in New Orleans were his lifelong passions and joys.
He was a loving and caring husband and father and a super grandpa whose zest for life was infectious. He was always there if you needed a helping hand. His legacy will carry on …..
