The most important detail of John’s life is that he trusted Christ as his Lord and Savior as a young man and led his family to do the same.
John served in the army after graduating high school and was stationed in Okinawa. He worked as a stationary engineer for Houston Natural Gas (later Enron) as a career and later worked through his partial retirement (8 years) with his brother, Gilbert, helping in the electrical business.
At his death he was a member of First Baptist Church Eastland where he attended regularly.
John was preceded in death by his parents (Stanley Wood and wife Myrtle), his brother (Gilbert), his sister (Irma), and the love of his life - wife of 46 years (Eva).
He is survived by his daughter - Robin Mullin and husband -Rod of Carbon, Texas, his daughter -Karen Griswold and husband – Ken of Porter, Texas, three grandchildren – Kaylyn Warden and husband McGarry of Cleburne, Texas, Kyle Griswold and wife April of Midland, Texas, Kase Griswold and wife Lainey of College Station, Texas, and 5 Great Grandchildren – Adam Warden, Thea Warden, Atlas Griswold, Miles Warden and Sol Griswold. He is also survived by his brother – Tom Wood and wife Sue, and sister – Marilyn Gard and husband Kenneth, and many other friends and family.
John loved fishing and working in his garage. In his retirement years he loved caring for the home and property he and Eva built together in Granbury, Texas and he loved helping others through local ministry efforts of his church, Acton Baptist and his community. In later years he loved reading and he never lost his love for the Word of God.
Family and friends are invited to attend a casual lunch at the home of Ken and Karen Griswold (19522 Desna Drive, Porter, TX 77365) following a graveside service and interment at Rosewood Funeral Home in Humble, Texas on June 10, 2023 at 10:30 am.
