

A graduate of Rochelle High School, he earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Dubuque. On November 1, 1959 John and Diane were married in Rochelle, IL.
He was a proud member of the U.S. Army who served in Germany between 1957 and 1958. He held the rank of Specialist Four. When John was stationed in Europe, he met Diane in Brussels while on a weekend leave. In Brussels at the World's Fair, Diane served as an interpreter and spoke many languages fluently.
John often tells how the night he met Diane, he knew she was the one. She knew he was a young GI far from home. Upon their return to the US, they began a long distance courtship, with him living in Illinois and Diane in Ohio. They fell in love and soon married.
John worked primarily in sales during his career, spending time with Barwick & Galaxy Carpeting. John started Right Way Landscaping in the 1970s and had many clients in Houston and the surrounding areas. He later joined Continental Airlines' Cargo Shipping division in the 1980s. By 1992, he had retired from the airline. As a retiree, he enjoyed spending time with his family and being outside, usually on his front porch talking to neighbors.
He attended North Central Church in Spring, Texas.
John was kind, loving and caring. He devoted himself to his family and faith. He loved and served people well and he was a great believer, Christ follower, husband, father, grandparent and great grandfather.
He was an active member both of the Kiwanis and Toastmasters organizations during his free time.
Among his favorite pastimes were watching sports, spending time with Diane, and having meaningful conversations with friends. Among his greatest joys in life were his relationship with Jesus, his marriage to Diane, and the birth of his children.
An interment service for John is scheduled for Friday, May 6, 2021 at 10:30am at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Dr. Houston, TX 77038. Those in attendance are asked to arrive in Lane 1.
John Pierce was predeceased by his mother, Shirley Mae Pierce, and father, John Pierce.
He is survived by his loving wife, Diane Pierce; sister, Susan Pierce; son, David Pierce (Elizabeth); daughter, Deborah Evans (Robert); and grandchildren, Glenn Evans (Allison), Karin Coelho (Joe), Michael Pierce and Matthew Pierce.
