It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James Louis “Jim” Tallas, a devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend whose love, humor, and presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Jim was born in a railroad car in Lissie, Texas. He lived life with passion, humor, and strong convictions. He served in the United States Navy and was a proud member of the Texas Legislature for 10 years, a role he was deeply passionate about and loved.
Jim was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Susan Diane Tallas; his parents, Freida and Louis Tallas; and his brother, Jerry Tallas.
He is survived by his former wife of more than 30 years, Bobbie Tallas, with whom he shared many years of family holidays and lasting memories with their two children.
He is lovingly remembered by his daughter, Vicki Miller, and son-in-law, Ronald Miller; his grandchildren, Jeffrey Reid Miller and Jordan Riley Miller; and his great-grandchild, River Miller, son of Jeffrey Reid Miller and his wife, Cheyene Miller.
He is also survived by his son, Jeffrey Tallas, with whom he shared a special bond and many treasured memories; grandchildren, Connor Tallas and Lawson Tallas, and their mother, Tracee Tallas.
Jim is further survived by his beloved brother, Billy Tallas, and sister-in-law, Gayetta Tallas; his niece, Robyn; his grandniece, Paige; and his sister, Linda Alexander. He also leaves behind many cherished nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews, all of whom held a special place in his heart.
Jim was fortunate to have the steadfast friendship, care, and support of Cheryl Garza, who worked alongside him for more than 40 years as his trusted life care manager and planner. Cheryl’s dedication, loyalty, and companionship were a meaningful part of his life, and her care and support brought comfort through many seasons.
He also shared many treasured memories and a lasting friendship with Bill Jameson and his wife, Susan Jameson, spending time together on the golf course, sharing stories, cigarettes, and companionship built over the years.
Jim will be remembered for his deep love of family, his independent spirit, and the many conversations, stories, and moments he shared with those closest to him. Whether talking politics, enjoying golf, riding motorcycles—especially with his son and later passing that love down to his grandsons—spending time with the cats he loved, or sharing a glass of Jack Daniel’s, Jim brought warmth, wit, and a one-of-a-kind presence to those around him. He lived life in his own way and left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
He passed away peacefully in his home, with his son and daughter by his side.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in James Tallas’s memory to The Wounded Warrior Project, a cause that was meaningful to him.
Though he may no longer be with us in person, his memory will live on in the hearts of all who loved him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
Services will be held at Sugar Land Methodist Church on July 11, 2026, at 10:00 a.m.
