Hildegard Metzsching, age 84, of Houston, died peacefully at home on July 11, 2018. Preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Hans Metzsching. She is survived by her daughter, Audrey and son in-law Jaime Ponce De Leon, son Glen Metzsching; Grandchildren Lindsey and husband Joel Garrison; Daniel and wife Emily Safford; Kirk Ponce De Leon and his girlfriend Memory Gonzalez; Great Grandchildren Hunter, Zoey, and Edith Garrison.
Born in Bolko, Germany on September 10, 1933. She did an apprenticeship as a tailor in Stuttgart, Germany, where she met Hans. They decided to start their life together in America and immigrated in 1957 to Chicago. Seeking a warmer climate, they settled in Houston and started a family. She had a great passion for children and volunteered countless hours for those with mental health disabilities. She loved traveling and when possible would accompany Hans on his business trips. They took their grandchildren on numerous day trips throughout Texas. She was very accomplished in needle arts. Her expertise lent itself to traditional Japanese embroidery, needlepoint, knitting, crocheting, sewing, and quilting to name a few. She took care of all the grandchildren and for a time Zoey. Always there when you needed her and yes, she had a sweet tooth.
A private memorial service will be held to celebrate the life of Oma.
