Obituary of Harry Sherwood Yates
The Rev. Harry S. Yates, 88, of Houston, TX, passed away after a long illness on August 6, 2026 at home with his family.

Harry was the beloved husband of Sara and loving father of Rachel (Patrick) Thomas, Sara (Christopher) Eddy, and David Yates. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Hannah (Kevin) Duffy, Cameron Eddy, Harper Thomas, and Ian Thomas. He was preceded in death by his parents Ann Ducker Yates and William E. Yates and his brother William E. Yates, Jr.

Harry was born on April 21,1938. His idyllic childhood in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn was spent with a loving family and friends that would last a lifetime. He played games in the streets, took the subway to cheer on the Yankees, listened to jazz at Basin Street East and Birdland, and thrived at Poly Prep’56. With a smile and many laughs he told stories of these days throughout his life.

He followed in his father’s footsteps and attended the University of Pennsylvania’60. He served as LTJG in the Navy from 1960 to 1963, then earned his MBA from Columbia University’69.

Harry was a financial advisor for 45 years. In 1991, he joined Edward Jones and continued to serve his clients until 2017.

Harry was a member of Northwoods Presbyterian Church for 53 years. He taught Sunday School, led confirmation classes and held a Wednesday morning Communion Service for many years. In 2005, he graduated from Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary and Houston Theological Seminary and was ordained at Northwoods.
