Gene Laverne Ellsworth Alvoid, “Mama Gene”, of Houston, Texas, died July 6, 2017. She was born November 4,1915 in London, Ohio to Harry Raymond Ellsworth and Estelle Gindele Ellsworth. Gene lived and worked in Columbus Ohio where she met and married her high school sweet heart, Benjamin Maurice Alvoid who preceded her in death in 1990. Gene enjoyed 101 years with her loving family. She is survived by daughter Sarah Pollack of Houston and son Dennis Alvoid of Dallas and their spouses Timothy Bohan and Lee Alvoid, two grandsons, Russell Green, Houston, and Justin Green, Denver, Colorado and their spouses Jamie Kaplan and Melanie Cree-Green, and four great grandchildren, Aubrey and Chelsea Green, Houston and Hailey and Wyatt Green, Denver. Gene and Ben lived in Dallas, Texas for many years where they were active and devoted members of Westminster Presbyterian Church. When Gene relocated to Houston after Ben’s death, she became an active member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church. She had a strong heart from her many years as a dancer, which contributed to her long life. Gene was a member of P.E.O. in Dallas and Houston and served as president of her Dallas chapter. She loved to travel, play bridge, create delicious meals for family and friends, participate in P.E.O. activities and be a part of a church congregation. A Memorial service will be held in Houston on July 22, 2017 at 11:00AM in the chapel at St, Paul’s United Methodist Church. Gene and her husband will be interred in the columbarium at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church. The family expresses gratitude for the loving care she received at the end of her life from ComforCare, Houston. Memorials can be made to the charity of your choice.
