Gail Broughton Berry, 82, passed away peacefully on April 19, 2025, in Houston, Texas. A gracious and creative spirit, Gail touched the lives of many with her warmth, compassion, and enduring love for beauty in all its forms.
Born on August 7, 1942, in Corpus Christi, Texas, to Clint and Oleta (Gabriel) Broughton, Gail was a bright and determined student from an early age. She graduated as valedictorian from Gregory High School before pursuing higher education at the University of Houston, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Education. Her academic achievements reflected her lifelong dedication to learning and excellence.
It was at U of H where she met Richard Berry, her loving husband and partner in life for 61 years. Together, they built a home filled with love, laughter, and countless cherished memories. Their bond was a testament to their deep love and commitment to each other.
Gail's life was enriched by her deep love for family and community. She is survived by her beloved husband, Richard; her son Lance Berry, and his wife Sandra (Lovings) Berry; her daughter Pam Berry, and Pam’s partner Scott Sherrill. She cherished her grandchildren (love you to the moon and back) —Christoffer Glavander, his fiancée Ida Englesson; Alana Berry, and her husband Michael Buffington—as well as her great-grandchildren Maddox and Kieran Buffington. Gail also shared a close bond with her sister Carol Anne (Broughton) Swearingen, and Carol’s husband Steve. Her extended family of cousins, nieces and nephews held a special place in her heart.
A woman of many talents and interests, Gail found joy in photography, gardening, travel, theatre, and design. Her artistic eye brought beauty into every space she touched—from the flowers she nurtured to the photographs she captured. These passions were not just hobbies but expressions of how she saw the world: full of wonder, color, and meaning. A proud breast cancer survivor, she was often seen sporting a pink streak in her hair.
Gail was also deeply committed to her faith community at John Wesley Methodist Church in Houston. As an early leader of the Faith Circle group, she offered guidance and fellowship to others through both word and deed. Her presence within the church was marked by kindness and a quiet strength that inspired those around her.
A memorial service celebrating Gail’s life will be held on Thursday, May 8, 2025, at 1:00 PM at John Wesley Methodist Church, located at 5830 Bermuda Dunes, Houston, Texas 77069. A reception will follow.
Gail Broughton Berry leaves behind a legacy of love, creativity, and grace. May her memory bring comfort to those who knew her and continue to inspire all whose lives she touched.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be shared with a favorite charity; Gail often supported Northwest Assistant Ministries.
