Born in Canton, Ohio on October 2, 1947 to Howard and Arline Kuhn, Doug graduated from Perry High School and went on to proudly serve as a combat engineer in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, where he was stationed in Germany and Vietnam 1966-1968. After his tours of duty, Doug returned home, where he remained a faithful member of Zion Lutheran Church, served as a firefighter for the city of Canton, and later went on to retire from Luminant (Texas Utilities Company) after 33 years as a heavy equipment operator in East Texas.
Doug is survived by his sons, Douglas Kuhn, II of Austin, Texas (spouse Robin), Rick Kuhn of Douglasville, Georgia, Randy Kuhn of Cypress, Texas (spouse Amy) and Timothy Kuhn (spouse Courtney). He was a devoted grandfather, “Paw-Paw”, to his grandchildren Zachary Kuhn (spouse Angela), Mallory Luth (spouse Zach), Parker Kuhn, Caitlyn Kuhn, Reagan Kuhn, Chase Kuhn, and Greyson Kuhn, and took great joy in his two great granddaughters, Madelyn Kuhn and Landry Kuhn. Doug is preceded in death by both of his parents, his sister Thaya Madden, and his brother Denny Kuhn.
Doug liked playing catch with his sons and loved watching them and later, his grandchildren play their sports. He never missed a family baptism or high school or college graduation. Whether trolling Lake of the Pines in his boat or taking in a Hill Country sunset, he especially enjoyed spending time outdoors with his family. An avid reader of history, he crafted his own bookshelves. He also gave back to his community as a 20-gallon blood donor and a faithful contributor to the VFW, Vietnam Veterans, and many other charities.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Texas Oncology Foundation.
