Donald Walter Coleman

On Monday, August 29th, 2022 Donald Walter Coleman, loving husband and father of five children, passed away at the age of 67. Don was born on December 31, 1954 in Montgomery, AL to David and Doris (Harris) Coleman. He was the second oldest of their five sons. His family moved to Houston, TX in his early childhood and he claimed Texas as home. In 1977 he started his own business as a tow truck driver. From 1982 to 1992 he was the primary caregiver for two of his daughters while still continuing to run his tow truck business, he took his girls with him everywhere. He owned and operated his business for 30 years before retiring in 2007. After retiring he began a career as a school bus driver, working for both Alief ISD and Fort Bend ISD, which he continued to do until early 2022. On July 12, 1992 he married Patricia Dalene Greening and during their 30 year marriage they raised their blended family of two sons and three daughters.

Don had a passion for trumpet playing and participated in his church orchestra for many years as well as being a member of a community band. He was a faithful member of Bellaire West Baptist Church/Heritage Baptist Church for many years. He loved to ride his Yamaha motorcycle and shared this hobby with several friends, his brother, and his children. He loved baseball, participated in the sport as a child, coached numerous teams in Westbury Little League in his younger years, and umpired high school baseball well into his 40s. He was a passionate Christian man who loved to talk. It was his strongest skill, he never met a stranger, and he used that skill to share his faith in Jesus Christ with many, many people. He was always quick to offer help to those in need, by giving of his tow truck services, his time, his ear, his advice, or financial assistance, whatever he was able to do. He was well known for talking people’s ears off, being stubborn and opinionated, being quick to laugh or make a joke, and so often having a smile on his face.

Don was preceded in death by his father, David, and his mother, Doris. He is survived by his wife, Dalene, his children, Steven Coleman and his wife Melissa, Jarrod Greening and his wife Kristin, Kelly Herman and her husband Patrick, Jessica Greening and her husband Jimale, Katie Frazier and her husband James, as well as 26 grandchildren, 4 brothers, numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family, as well as countless friends.

A celebration of life will be held at 2:00pm on Sunday, September 18th, 2022 at Horizon Baptist Church in Missouri City, TX. Flowers or other donations may be sent to 2223 FM 1092 Rd, Missouri City, TX 77459.
