Dion was born in Jacksonville, Florida to Victor Eneas and Dorothy “Dot” Cason Raymos. He attended Nathan Bedford Forrest High School before earning his bachelor’s degree with a major in Broadcast Journalism from The University of Florida. He spent several years as a broadcast journalist in Florida before moving to Houston, Texas to pursue his law degree at the University of Houston.
While attending UH, Dion met the love of his life, Lynn Harvey Ramos, with whom he recently celebrated their 42nd Wedding Anniversary. After graduating from UH, Dion went on to complete his education with an LLM from Tulane University in New Orleans. Much of his career was spent as a medical malpractice defense attorney, but his favorite career stop by far was his time spent as a civil district Judge for Harris County. He deeply valued his time on the bench and took pride in campaigning, serving his community, and working alongside others in public service.
Outside of the courthouse, Dion was a man of many interests. He loved music and spent years collecting guitars and CDs from his favorite artists. He also enjoyed tinkering and working with his hands, and he was often found woodworking or practicing photography. He had a natural curiosity and took joy in learning new skills and perfecting old ones. Another favorite pastime was breakfasts with the ‘Misters of Avalon’ – some of his most cherished friends with whom he shared regular breakfasts at Avalon Diner.
Dion’s greatest love was his family. He followed the lives of his three children, Allison, Wesley, and Cason, with constant interest and pride. His two young grandchildren, Matthew and Alice, whom he lovingly called his ‘little angels,’ brought him particular joy. Even more, he was lucky to have not one but two mothers-in-law to give him grief! At the heart of his family stood his wife, Lynn, whose unwavering care and devotion remained with him through every chapter.
Dion was preceded in death by his parents, Victor and Dorothy Raymos.
Dion is survived by his wife, Lynn Harvey Ramos; his three children, Allison (Seth Strange) Ramos of Seattle, WA, Wesley (Adele) Ramos of Houston, TX, and Cason (Ashley) Ramos of Houston, TX; two grandchildren, Matthew Victor Ramos and Alice Marion Ramos of Houston, TX.
He is also survived by his brother Victor (Crystal) Raymos of Gainesville, FL and mothers-in-law, Ellarene Galloway of Dallas, TX and Nelda Harvey of Baton Rouge, LA; sisters-in-law Sarah (Michael) Ogden of Dallas, TX; Beth (Will) Watkins of Shreveport, LA; Jenny (John) Landreneau of Prairieville, LA; brothers-in-law Mark (Marcia) Sanchez of Baton Rouge, LA and Tom (Karen) Sanchez of Dallas, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews.
