

Diane Gertrude Jones, of Houston Texas was born on September 10, 1940 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Galveston Texas and passed away on Saturday, May 25, 2024 in Houston Texas. Diane was the oldest of seven children born to Herbert and Louise Jones. She was preceded in death by her life partner, Marsha Mabry, both parents and two siblings, Mary Collins, and Herby Jones. She is survived by four sisters and brothers-in-laws. Alexis and Rocky Hernandez, Susan and Clifford Shaw, Jan and Ted Williams and Kim and Ronald Mlcak, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She attended La Marque High School and then graduated from Sam Houston State University with a B.S. degree in Sociology. She then earned a Teaching Certificate from The University of Houston. She later graduated from St. Thomas University earning a Master's Degree in Education.
In 1962, Diane began her career working as a Social Worker and then in 1964 she began a long and successful career in elementary education at Houston Independent School District. She retired in 2004, after 40 years of faithful and committed service, during which time she touched the lives of many young children.
Diane loved animals, especially her beloved dachshunds. She was an avid reader and enjoyed going to the theater and out to dinner with friends. She loved jazz and classical music. She loved sports, especially the Houston Rockets and the Astros. She was actively involved in Alcoholics Anonymous for over 40 years and cherished the friendships made there. She was a mentor and friend to numerous individuals in her groups.
Diane was intelligent, warm, caring, strong and resilient. She had a witty sense of humor. She was a great listener and a wonderful sister. Her friends describe her as feisty, kind, considerate, loving, loyal, trustworthy, constant, determined, funny, the real deal, and a genuine help for newcomers in the AA program.
The family would like to thank all her many devoted friends who faithfully called, visited, read to her, brought Max and other dogs to visit, brought food, gifts, flowers, or just sat quietly with her during her final months. The family would also like to thank the staff at Brookdale Assisted Living and the wonderful caretakers of Guadalupe Porres with Xen Home Care.
