Christiana Keller

Christiana Bakas was born Christmas day 1937 in Athens Greece. She was the Daughter of Angeliki Angelopoulos and Alkinos Bakas who were both musicians. Christiana’s grandfather, Yiannis Angelopoulos was a world famous baritone opera singer.

Raised in the Nea Filadelfeia neighborhood of Athens in a disciplined environment of culture and the arts, her childhood years exposed her to intellectuals, political activists, musicians, playwrights, and actors. She, an only child was a piano prodigy by the age of five. She attended The Conservatory of Music in Athens and went on to study at the renowned Academy of Music in Vienna. In 1958 she married James Harithas within two weeks of their meeting and courtship. She raised their three daughters while her husband attended university which landed him jobs as curator and museum directorship to some of the greatest art institutions in America.

From her understanding of discipline and diligence, she mastered many of her interests and talents to perfection. As a wife and mother she had a wealth of positive energy which she infused into gourmet cooking, interior design, furniture restoration, carpentry, impeccable sewing skills, as well as performance through dance and song. She loved gardening and had a natural healing talent initiated by her native upbringing coupled with her extensive study of yoga and homeopathic medicine. She was the quintessential hostess to all who entered her home. She was beautiful, quick witted, loving with an intuition that forged its way through joyous and difficult times. Later in life she successfully studied cosmetology under the tutelage of Vidal Sassoon.

Along with her native language Greek, she was fluent in German, French, Italian and English.

Christiana passed away peacefully on Oct 3rd 2016. She went home to be with her father, mother and beloved granddaughter Bridget Christiana Pamela Blyth.

Christiana is survived by her daughters Iphegenia (Jeannie) Harithas, Thalia Harithas, and Lia Harithas Blyth, her grandsons James Scanlan and Jesse Scanlan.
