Carole Margaret McFarland

May 22, 1945 – February 25, 2026
Obituary of Carole Margaret McFarland
Carole McFarland [80], of Houston, TX passed away peacefully at home with hospice care on February 25,2026.

She was born on May 22, 1945 in Brisbane, Australia to Daphne Smith McFarland and Clinton Bennett McFarland.

Carole came over to the United States as an infant with her mother after World War II ended and she grew up in Amarillo TX with her parents. She attended St Mary’s Academy High School in Amarillo and then went on to college at San Diego State University, with a major in political science. As a young adult, she was a fashion model for Nieman Marcus in Dallas TX and she appeared in Vogue magazine.

She began her life-long career as a travel agent at AAA Travel Agency in 1974 and throughout her 50 year travel career she also worked at American Express Travel, where she co-escorted large groups to Europe, the Caribbean Islands and Hawaii. She retired from the carriage-trade travel agency, Universal Travel in 2024.

Carole’s energy for life and her travel adventures took her around the world to enjoy new cultures, fine food, wine, art, architecture, music, especially the opera, history and people. She was well-spoken, graceful and gracious, kind, thoughtful and fun-loving.

She is survived by her long time partner Peter Coffman and her brother, Stephen Michael McFarland (wife, Elizabeth McFarland and sons, Philip James and Scott Clinton). She is preceded in death by her mother, Daphne McFarland and father, Clint McFarland.

A Celebration of Life will be planned this spring.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to “Friends For Life” animal rescue (https://friends4life.org/donate/) in Honor of Carole McFarland and her love for cats.
