Calvin Douglas Weiman was born at his parent’s home in Houston on June 17, 1922. His parents were Albert Weiman and Dena Ella Hillendahl Weiman. As a boy, Calvin lived in a home near Washington Avenue and I-10. Being a member of the Weiman Dairy Farms family, Calvin often spent breaks from school helping his extended family on the farm to milk cows. He was very close to his cousin Elva Weiman. He also was a proud member of the Hillendahl family from Spring Branch. Along with his siblings, his mother, her siblings and her parents and grandparents they formed the Hillendahl family that founded Spring Branch. That area was once known as Hillendahl, Texas before it was incorporated by Spring Branch. As he grew older, Calvin would often walk or bike to Herman Park Golf Course to earn money as a caddie. He also worked changing targets on the weekends at the Bear Creek and Tin Hall Gun Clubs after shooting competitions. He graduated from San Houston High in 1941. With the approach of World War II, Calvin joined the Army. He was trained as a B-17 bomber mechanic and became a member of the 390th Bombardment Group stationed in England. This Bombardment group was one of the first units to be included in the newly formed Army Air Force. As a Sargent, Calvin had many adventures during his time. He would tell many stories which included ones of the preparations for D-Day and how his group helped to outfit the bombers for the tasks at hand. Calvin was honorably discharged in late 1945.
As a youth, Calvin was a member of Bethel E&R Church in the Heights area. There he met Katherine Saige who would eventually become his wife. They were married on July 24, 1945 and remained devoted to each other for almost 62 years. After their marriage, Calvin and Katherine lived with family in The Heights area for a while. Calvin worked with his dad, Albert, to build some of the homes that still stand in the Heights area. The couple moved to the Spring Branch/Spring Valley area and stayed there for 61 years. They moved to Cypress in early 2000’s in order to be closer to family. Calvin worked for Mosher Steel and Hudson Engineering as a draftsman and retired in the 1980’s. Calvin and Katherine would split their time between their properties in Spring Branch, Bacliff and Somerville and spend vacations every year in New Braunfels. Unfortunately, Katherine passed away in 2007. Calvin was fortunate to find another love in his life after Katherine’s death. Jan Aragon was so precious to him in his later years. Calvin and Jan loved to enjoy outings and travel. He really missed her after she passed.
Calvin and Katherine were blessed with two sons Dennis and Steven. He was a wonderful father-in-law to his daughters-in-law Barbara Weiman and Mercedes Weiman. Calvin adored his family and enjoyed spending time with them. He leaves behind his grandchildren: Candice Weiman Armenoff and her husband Damon; Patrick Weiman and his wife Stefanie; Hazel Weiman Moreno and her husband Marco; and Calvin (Adolfo) Weiman and his wife Cambry. He also leaves behind his great-grandchildren: Adam Armenoff, Zachary Armenoff, Benjamin Weiman, Madeline Weiman, Mackenzie Moreno, Pricilla Moreno, and Gizelle Moreno. These children were the joy in his life.
Calvin in preceded in death by his parents Dena and Albert, wife Katherine, Son Dennis, brothers Earl and Albert (Sonny), and his sisters Alberta and Maxine.
Calvin was a smart, generous and loving man. He always has a smile to share. He was a devoted Christian who thought of others first. He was a good listener and had a wonderful sense of humor. His devotion to his family, love of life and commitment to always doing things that benefited others will truly be missed.
