Richard passed away peacefully in his home on Saturday afternoon surrounded by his wife and children after a 2 year battle with cancer.
Richard valued his family and held them above all else. His love for his wife, children & grandchildren was immeasurable. His children and grandchildren were at the house nearly every day to see Paw Paw & Maw Maw.
He was a great friend to all who knew him, whether he knew them for 50 years or 1 day. He had an impact on almost every person that he met. Just the kind of man that people could talk to for hours about anything.
Richard was a hardworking man who never backed down from a challenge. He was always willing to lend a helping hand. He instilled his work ethic and moral compass into each one of his children. Although when the work was done his love for hunting kept him very busy. It came second nature to him. His kids grew up hunting, trapping, and enjoying Chevy trucks. While his sons split his passions; one is a phenomenal hunter, the other has a collection of a variety of square body Chevys that would turn your head, the girls on the other hand shared his biggest love of family, 4H horse shows, & of course the Morrow County Fair.
To say that Richard will be missed would be an understatement of a lifetime. There is no replacement for a man of his caliber. He was one of a kind. We will remember and follow his ways for all our lives.
He leaves behind his wife LeeAnn Shirley of 38 years, 5 Children, spouses, and grandchildren:
Jessica (Brian) Frank – Landon, Dallas, Dakota, Danika, Lincoln
Richard N. Shirley Jr.
Silas (Ashley) Shirley- Aubrey, Kaydence, Reed

Taylor (Tony) Booher- Abbigail, Annabelle, Audrina, Genevieve, Camryn
He is also survived by his parents Dick and Marsha Shirley and sister Tami (Shirley) Loyer as well as several very close friends whom will miss him dearly.
Richard was preceded in death by his infant son, Joseph Thomas Shirley and his sister Teri R. (Shirley) Gullett.
Honoring Richards wishes, there will be a memorial service held at Northmor High School, December 30, 2018 at 2:00pm.
