Norma Jean Walker, 87, passed away February 13, 2019. She was born and raised in Dublin, Ohio to the late Lloyd and Mary Hedges. After graduation from Dublin High School she met and married Vernon Walker, an officer with the Franklin County police force. So inspired by the work he was doing, Norma joined the Columbus Police Department herself and, after two years, transferred to Ohio State University's campus security team. She was one of the first, if not THE first, female officer on any college campus in the United States. Norma was very involved in her job and proudly served the OSU community for 25 years prior to her retirement. She was also involved in her church and took great pride in serving others. In addition to her parents, Norma was preceded in death by her daughter and son-in-law Kathy and Gary Bentley, as well as her two brothers and two sisters. She is survived by her daughter, Vickie (Robert) O'Connor; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and dear friend, Tim Montgomery. A celebration of Norma's life will be held Wednesday, February 20, 2019, 1 p.m., at Grace Polaris Church (8225 Worthington Galena Road, Worthington, OH 43081). Pastor Tim Waggoner will be officiating.
