Eloise R. “Pat” DeVeny Moir died Friday, March 31, 2017 at home in Mansfield, Ohio, surrounded by loving family. Born March 23, 1923 in Lorain, Ohio to Rose and Abram DeVeny, she graduated from Lorain High School in 1940 and attended Capital University in Columbus, Ohio. In 1945 she married WWII veteran James A. Moir and they enjoyed 56 years together until Jim’s death in 2001. Eloise is survived by six children: Leslie (Keith) Harper of Melrose, Florida, Marcia Beltzer of Tucson, Arizona, Patricia Fischer of Vermilion, Ohio, Margaret Moir (Susan Paynter) of Mansfield, Ohio, Lisa Zolman of Fort Myers, Florida and Dale (Colleen) Moir of Woodridge, Illinois. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Pat and Jim and their children spent many happy summers at the family cottage in Linwood Park, Vermilion, Ohio. Pat worked at the former Lorain Telephone Company for 17 years, retiring in 1980 and relocating with husband Jim to Lehigh, Florida. They spent the next 21 years enjoying wonderful friends, playing golf and tennis, volunteering and just appreciating life together. In later years Pat developed an interest in genealogy and became a practiced researcher, eventually attaining membership in the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a life member of the ITPA. Pat enjoyed tennis very much and was a loyal fan of Roger Federer. She always had a quick mind and a quick wit, and was happiest when she was surrounded by her children and grandchildren. At Pat’s request, there will be no funeral. A gathering of family and friends will be held at a later date to celebrate her life. Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Lorain, Ohio.
