Billy Howard Hughes, 77, of Piketon, Ohio, passed away May 20, 2017 at his residence in Piketon, OH. He was born March 2, 1940 in Osborne, Kentucky to the late Estill and Olive (Nunemaker) Hughes. Billy is survived by his wife Lois M. Alexander (Foster) who he was united in marriage to on May 17, 2008. Also surviving is his daughter; Karen Rogers (Gary) of Aurora, Colorado and his son; Michael Hughes of Colorado Springs. He has one grandchild Cody Rogers of Aurora, CO. He has 3 brothers; Daniel Hughes, of Ida, South Carolina, Ralph (Wilma) Hughes, of Piketon, OH, and Donald (Rose) Hughes of Petersburg, MI. He has 3 sisters; Betty (Steve) Rudy, of Ypsilanti, MI., and Patty (Efrain) Becerra, of Ypsilanti, MI., and Joyce (Juan) Sanchez, of Ypsilanti, MI. In addition to his parents, Billy is preceded in death by his 4 sisters; Loretta Roach, London, OH, Lois Jeanetta, Meade, KY, Alma Leedy, Piketon, OH, Dorothy Hughes, Romulus, MI and 2 brothers; James Hughes, Columbus, OH, and Fred Hughes, Waverly, OH. Billy had initially enlisted in the US Marine Corps on July 9, 1958 with an ETS date of Oct 14, 1966 and then re-enlisted on August 9, 1967 in the U.S. Air Force, retiring on November 30, 1980, with a last duty assignment of 46 Cams (SAC) at Peterson AFB, Colorado. While in the military he received the following honors; AF Commendation Medal with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster, Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon, AF Longevity Service Award with 4 Oak Leaf Clusters, National Defense Service Medal, AF Good Conduct Medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters (August 9, 1967 – August 8, 1979), AF Outstanding Unit Award, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Cuba). Military Positions held were Jet Engine Technician, Maintenance Management superintendent. Military Schools; Technical Publications, Maintenance Management Information and Control System, Maintenance Management Orientation. He is a member of the American Legion Post #142 of Waverly, OH, and also a member of the Brandon Moose Lodge Chapter #1596 of Brandon, FL. Graveside Services will be held Saturday, May 27, 2017 at Mound Cemetery, 5880 Wakefield Mound Rd. Piketon, OH at 11:00AM, with the American Legion #142 providing a 21 Gun Salute. A Memorial Service will be held at the Elm Grove Church of Christ, 8155 Chenoweth Fork Rd., Piketon, OH. at 12:00 Noon, following the inurnment. Services officiated by Tommy Meade.
