Barbara E. Hunkar (Egbring) is in the hands of God. She passed away peacefully on August 8, 2018. She is preceded in death by her Father - Louis Egbring and Mother Zamora Egbring and ex-husband Denes Hunkar. She is survived by son Nick Hunkar, Daughter Betsy Hunkar, Daughter-in-law Julie Hunkar, Son-in-Law Sri Paranthaman, Grandchildren: Alex, Kyle, Para and Latha.
Our mom lived a full life. She had the opportunity to travel and she saw the country and the world. She never brought you back tourist trinkets she brought meaningful items; a piece of the Rock of Gibralter, brick from Pompeii, or dinosaur bones. She loved digging up the bones.
She was a teacher and a teacher’s teacher. She taught school before she was married and at the museum center after raising us. When we moved her to Columbus we had to convince her they hadn’t called her for new programs in 5 years they weren’t going to call her now and we could get rid of the accumulated materials. She was a self-taught geologist, archeologist and paleontologist. Mom loved to learn and educate. She passed those ideas on to her kids and grandkids. She loved to quiz you from the latest National Geographic magazine test.
She was a world class conversationalist and could carry on discussions on just about any topic. Even if she didn’t know the topic you were telling her about she was interested and offer her thoughts.
She was a strong individual and fought for her ideas and for her kids benefits. She never gave us any slack. She wouldn’t let us win at games and even turned me in on senior skip day. But she was always supportive for everything we did.

She had more friends than anyone could hope for because she tried to be the best friend she could be. We thank everyone who touched her life as they made an impact more than they will ever know.
She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. Our mom was the most giving, loving and sincere individual that I know. She put her heart and soul into her family. She will be remembered for all of her good work to others, her contagious laugh and sense of humor, her creativity, and especially for her love of dinosaurs and natural history. Her children and grandchildren will miss her dearly but know she is at peace with God.
We love you mom and pray that you will look down on us and guide us in our time of need. Say hello to Grandma, Grandpa and Dad. Services will be at St. John Fisher Church in Newton, Ohio on August 18, 2018 at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The American Diabetes Foundation.
