Louis Martin, age 82, passed away peacefully on January 28, 2026. Born on September 20, 1943, in Honolulu, Hawaii, Louis grew up in Pearl City and attended Pearl City High School, proudly carrying his Hawaiian roots throughout his life.
Louis honorably served his country in the United States Army for nearly 30 years, retiring in 1988 as a Sergeant Major (E-9). A Vietnam veteran, he earned numerous awards and commendations during his distinguished military career... achievements he held with deep pride. His time in the Army allowed him to travel the world, shaping the disciplined and deeply respected man he became. As a tank mechanic, his love for working with his hands continued long after retirement through remodeling projects and working on his cars. Growing up and throughout his military years, he also enjoyed playing football and volleyball. He was known by all who knew him as an exceptionally hardworking man who never shied away from responsibility and took pride in every task he undertook.
During his years in Monterey, California, Louis remained closely connected to his heritage as a dedicated board member of the Hui O’ Aloha Club, where he was an active member for over 20 years. The club gave him a meaningful way to celebrate his culture and build lifelong friendships.
Family was always Louis’s greatest joy and priority. He shared 60 loving years of marriage with his devoted wife, Brigitte Martin, building a life centered on loyalty, strength, and laughter. Known lovingly to his grandchildren as Grandpa and Opa, he was a steady source of encouragement and pride. A passionate sports fan and devoted San Francisco 49ers supporter, Louis enthusiastically supported his family in every sport they pursued. For many years, he coached youth football and worked tirelessly to support youth programs, believing every child deserved opportunity and encouragement.
He found happiness in meaningful, hands-on work...remodeling his home, landscaping, and gardening. In retirement, he enjoyed visits to his favorite casinos, happily playing his favorite slot machines and sharing laughter with family and friends.
Known for his humor and playful spirit, Louis loved to joke, tease, and make people laugh. He lived by the words, “work smarter, not harder,” and carried himself with discipline and integrity that earned him respect everywhere he went. He believed life was meant to be enjoyed. He lived fully, loved deeply, and would want to be remembered with smiles rather than tears.
Louis is survived by his wife of 60 years, Brigitte Martin; sister-in-law Christa Kallert; daughter Tina Martin; grandson Robert Martin; granddaughter-in-law Annie Martin; great-grandson Connor Martin; great-granddaughter Ava Martin; son David Martin; son Earl Martin; and grandson Jordan Martin. His strength, laughter, and love will continue through the generations he helped shape.
Louis’s life was a celebration of service, family, humor, and heart. Though he will be deeply missed, the joy he gave so freely remains, a lasting gift to all who knew him.
