Howard Francis Basileo

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Howard Francis Basileo, who passed away on June 10, 2026, at the age of 85 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Howard was born on August 15, 1940, in Fairbanks, Alaska, to Howard Francis Weltzin and Helen Elizabeth Wascisin. He was later lovingly raised by his stepfather, John Basileo, whose family name he proudly carried. A proud Steamfitter, Howard was a Life Member of the United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices, Local 250. He also proudly served in the U.S. Army Reserves. He believed in the value of hard work, craftsmanship, and standing by his fellow union members, values he proudly passed on to his daughter. Outside of work, he was a talented bowler who found great joy in the friendships and camaraderie the sport brought him.

Above all else, Howard was a devoted father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. Family was the center of his life. He treasured every opportunity to spend time with those he loved, never missing a birthday, holiday, or family gathering if he could help it. One of his greatest joys was teaching his grandson, Joshua, how to bowl and cheering him on at his sporting events. Howard also shared his lifelong appreciation for classic muscle cars and car culture with Joshua. They enjoyed talking about today's cars, reminiscing about the car’s Howard admired or owned when he was young, and sharing their enthusiasm for the automotive world. The memories they created together will be treasured forever.

Howard had many passions. He loved bowling, admired classic sports and muscle cars, enjoyed watching his beloved Seattle Seahawks and the Vegas Golden Knights, and was a lifelong Star Trek fan. He was also known for his love of a good breakfast: two eggs over medium, crispy bacon, hash browns, buttered toast with plenty of butter, and a cup of black coffee. It was one of life's simple pleasures that always brought him happiness. He was known for his kind heart, generous spirit, sense of humor, and quiet wisdom. He had a gift for making people feel welcome and valued, and he touched countless lives through his kindness and genuine interest in others.

Howard cherished the lifelong relationships he shared with his brother, many nieces and nephews, and dear friends. He spoke of them often with pride, affection, and gratitude.

Howard is survived by his loving daughter, Annette; his son-in-law, Kevin; his beloved grandson, Joshua; his brother, Johnny; and many cherished nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard Francis Weltzin and Helen Elizabeth Wascisin; his stepfather, John Basileo; and his sister, Beverly Smith.

A private memorial will be held on August 15, where Howard's life will be remembered and celebrated with love.

Those who wish to honor Howard's memory may do so by making a memorial donation to Nathan Adelson Hospice or the American Cancer Society, or by performing a simple act of kindness for someone in need, reflecting the generosity with which he lived his life.

Howard's greatest legacy is the love he gave to his family and friends. He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever carried in the hearts of all who knew him.
