It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Virginia ‘Ginny’ Medvigy. She left us peacefully on April 25, 2025 at the age of 93.
Born on August 22, 1931 to Josephine and William Schmidt of Rahway, New Jersey. She attended Rahway High School and relished her summers down the shore. She was an integral part of her family’s business, Rahway Rec for many years.
After raising her children and retiring from a career at Muhlenberg Hospital, she and her husband relocated to Beverly Hills, Florida. They actively embraced their new way of life. Ginny found joy in playing cards, power walking, aerobics, swimming, dancing and reading. She found pleasure in her church community and volunteering with her local food bank.
After her husband, Alex passed, she embarked on a new adventure to Vancouver, Washington where she resided at Springwood Manor. Ginny made many new friends, participated in every activity offered and discovered a new found passion, bean bag baseball.
Ginny lived a life with love, kindness and unwavering strength and independence. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother and a friend always offering wisdom and compassion to those around her.
Ginny was preceded in death by her husband, Alex, her brother William ‘Bill’ Schmidt and granddaughters, Devon and Delaney. Virginia is survived by her children Gary Medvigy and Karen Medvigy Wise, her grandchildren Jordan, Simon, Abigail, Phoebe, Elyse, Logan and Riley, her great grandchildren Parker, Zoey and Josephine, her sister in law, Judith Schmidt and many nieces and nephews who will all hold her in their hearts with love and the warmth of cherished memories.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Shepherd of the Hills Episcopal Church (2540 W Norvell Bryant Hwy, Lecanto, FL 34461) or any veteran charity or local food bank in Florida.
