Travis Wade Schomas was born on June 13, 1968, to Brenda Jean Buck and Ivan Leslie Schomas. He was the third of seven children and the first-born son. Naturally athletic, Travis excelled at nearly every sport he tried — a gift that created one of his strongest bonds with his father. Long after his father’s passing, he often spoke fondly of the connection they shared.
Travis was the proud father of four children: Riley, Conner, Ashton, and Tanner. To anyone who knew him, it was clear that they were his greatest joy and accomplishment. He loved each of them with fiercely and would have crossed any ocean for them.
Throughout his life, Travis held many roles — salesman, maintenance worker, construction laborer, and truck driver. At 37, he returned to school and earned his associate’s degree in civil engineering, an achievement he was deeply proud of even though life led him down many different paths.
In 2020, Travis suffered a massive stroke and spent his later years focused on recovery. During that time, he shared many cherished days with his mother, Brenda, and his stepfather, Craig, whose love and support meant the world to him. Despite the challenges he faced, he continued to embrace life with gratitude and joy. He thrived in the summertime, loved cooking meals for his children, and found peace in riding his bike and tending to his garden — especially his maple trees and rose bushes. He treasured his weekends with his youngest son, Tanner, spending time shooting hoops, swimming, and relaxing together in the sun.
Travis will be remembered for his deep love of family, his charm and quick wit, and his gentle and generous spirit. He taught his children to be kind to others, to find laughter in everyday moments, and to persevere through life’s hardships. Though his absence will be profoundly felt, his spirit will live on in the hearts of those who loved him and in the beauty of the world he so deeply appreciated.
The family invites friends and loved ones to join in celebrating Travis’s life by sharing stories you remember of him. In lieu of flowers, please consider performing an act of kindness in his memory.
