ROBERT A. Akins was born December 18, 1942 in Oak Park, Illinois to Kenneth V. and Mildred Akins. He was raised in Hutchinson, Kansas with his two siblings, Karen and Mike.
Robert joined the United States Navy in December 1963; and had a memorable military career as a navigator aboard the USS Lake Champlain.
In March 1969, Robert exchanged wedding vows with Rebecca Romero in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The couple had two sons, Kenneth V. and Patrick A. They were blessed with two grandchildren.
After his military service, Robert worked in sales for a heavy equipment company, then moved on to work in sporting goods. He retired at age 62.
Robert was very involved in his church. While living in New Mexico, he attended St John's United Methodist Church in Albuquerque. After his move to Hillsboro, he remained active3 in the Aloha Methodist Church.
Outside of work Robert had many hobbies. He especially enjoyed coaching and playing basketball and softball. He was also very active with the Boy Scouts.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Sunday, June 24, 2018 in Aloha United Methodist Church, during regularly scheduled church services. Interment will be at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, July 12, 2018, n Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Robert is survived by his loving wife Becky; sons, Ken (Autumn) and Patrick (Sharon); granddaughter, Nayeli; grandson, Marshall; brother, Mike and his family; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Karen.
