Pat was born the day before St. Patrick’s Day to Christopher and Hester McSweeney. She took pride that she was named for St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland. She was raised in San Francisco with her sister, Margaret. In 1957 she married the love of her life David P. Campbell. They were married for 25 years until his passing in 1982. She is survived by her children (Mary and Hamid, Dave and Theresa, Steve and Pam), her grandchildren (Ben and Kathleen, Alex and Alonzo), and her great grandchildren (Finley and Robin). She
unofficially changed her name to Gigi (short for Great Grandma) in 2018 when her first great grandchild was born.
She was an accomplished musician - singer, pianist, organist, and choir director. She worked at numerous Catholic churches providing music for the weekly services, weddings, quinceaneras, and funerals. She occasionally provided music for a local synagogue as well when they needed help. After retirement, she provided music to skilled nursing facilities particularly those helping Alzheimer’s patients.
She also traveled the world. Trips in the US – national park tours, Alaska cruise and land excursions, and New England (particularly fall foliage tours). Trips abroad – the Caribbean, most of Europe – Ireland, England, France, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Hungary, etc., China (where she met a man singing Italian opera on the Great Wall), and her favorite trip – a safari in Africa where giraffes visited the verandas of the lodgings, and a lion came very close to greet her on a trip to the savannah.
We were so happy, blessed, and grateful to be able to celebrate mom’s 90th birthday with her family and so many wonderful friends (who she also considered to be her family). She was outgoing and positive. She made new friends wherever she went. She is loved and will be missed by many people whose lives she brightened.
