March 13, 1943 – May 16, 2023
Nancy Aileen Atkinson passed away into God’s graces after a long illness. The sun rose and the world welcomed Nancy on March 13, 1943, a day the world became a little brighter to William Atkinson and Phyllis Atkinson-Reid. Nancy was preceded in death by her beloved brother Clyde, sister’s Johnnie Louise and Thadenia.
Nancy grew up in a large, loving extended family in Goldsboro, North Carolina. A graduate of Dillard High School, she earned a teaching certificate from Fayette University, a bachelor’s degree from George Fox University and a master’s certificate from Concordia University.
As a Mental Health Counselor, she spent her career dedicated to working with at risk youths, her passion stretched through a multitude of experiences from; Parry Center For Children; Christie School; Multnomah County Juvenile Court; Portland Public Schools; Morrison Child & Family Services, and lastly retiring from Legacy Health System.
Nancy will be remembered as a dedicated Missionary, prayer warrior, mentor and spiritual leader. She was an active member of Mannahouse Church, a member of the Women’s Home and Overseas Missionary Society, Northwest Parish Nurse Ministries, and Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.
She is survived by her only daughter Phyllis; niece Denia and her children, Christopher and Cory and their families; great niece Jayden; extremely dedicated and loving close friends Byron and LindaCarol McKinlay; Clara Hamilton, her children and their families; and all her Missionary and Prayer Warrior partners in Oregon and around the world.
