Michael Sosthene Lotterberry peacefully passed away Monday, Aug. 21, 2023, surrounded by his wife, Nancy, son, Wesley and a host of loved ones.
Michael was born in Los Angeles, California, to Robert Dean and Eleanora Marie Lotterberry. He and his twin sister, Patricia, came into this world on Sunday, Oct. 28, 1945.
After two years in the U.S. Navy, Michael tried his hand at a number of careers, including stenography, accounting for an aerospace company, managing a hotel club, helping a friend with a FedEx business and working at the department of corrections.
While working for Continental Airlines, he sent his parents to Italy, Mexico and wherever their hearts desired.
Michael's best job experience came in 1976 when he met Nancy, the love of his life, while working at a Los Angeles hotel. They married a year later.
After Michael and Nancy welcomed their son, Wesley, into the world, the family relocated from California to Monroe, Washington. They spent a decade in Monroe and a decade in Shelton before moving to Vancouver to be closer to their family.
Michael enjoyed playing dominoes with family and spending time with his grandchildren. The urban native also took great pride in embracing his rural roots by raising chickens.
One of Michael's greatest passions was gardening. He was a self-taught master gardener who transformed his Vancouver home into a flourishing, tranquil space.
Michael was a thoughtful, loving person who did not see the point in conflicts or animosity. When he made a friend, he had a friend for life.
More than 30 years as a correctional officer for the Washington Department of Corrections did nothing to dampen his kind heart and loving soul. He made it a point to treat everyone with the respect they deserved.
Michael was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Eleanora; sister, Diana; and brother, Jerome.
Michael is survived by his wife, Nancy Lotterberry; son, Wesley Davis (Jennifer Marie Barnhart) Lotterberry; grandchildren, Dominic Michael Lotterberry, Clayton David Lotterberry, Eli Milton Lotterberry, Cassidy Marie Pettitt, Victoria Alyssa Pettitt, Maddison Lynn Barnhart and Hunter Michael Barnhart; sister, Patricia Moore; brothers, Darryl Lotterberry and Bartley (Marie) Lotterberry; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and inlaws.
Arrangements will take place at a later date.
