He was born on March 7, 1976, in Vancouver, Washington, to Jean Laird Goerl and George Conrad Goerl.
Marc graduated in 1994 from Lakeridge High School in Lake Oswego, Oregon. He studied business at Oregon State University and graduated with a bachelor’s of science in Business Administration/Management Information Systems in 1998. He dedicated his career to business and information technology in the automotive industry and worked the past 19 years as a web content manager.
Marc loved sports and played baseball, basketball and soccer in his youth. After high school, he took up tennis and was known for his very powerful serve. He had a passion for collecting baseball cards and enjoyed this hobby with his dad. He regularly attended sporting events for teams he enjoyed following; Marc was a huge Oregon State fan and enjoyed being a Beaver’s season ticket holder for football for many years. He held his favorite teams in close thought and he relished watch parties for his favorite professional teams–the Seahawks, Trail Blazers and the Mariners. His family watched Super Bowl LX with him and celebrated the big win for his Seahawks.
Marc was a dependable and thoughtful man, dedicated and ready to help family and friends with discovering a practical business solution. He maintained lifelong friendships from college. In recent years, he especially enjoyed spending time with his sister Alison’s family dogs, Limbo and then Oliver. Marc’s sense of humor, jokes, and quick wit will be missed by his family and friends.
Marc is survived by his mother, Jean Laird Goerl, sisters Lisa D. Goerl (Edward M. Warren), Alison J. Goerl, his godmothers, aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, George Conrad Goerl.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Marc’s 50th birthday, March 7, 2026, at 2:00 p.m., at Holy Family Catholic Church, located at 7525 S.E. Cesar E Chavez Blvd. Portland, Oregon. The service will be followed by a reception. Marc will be laid to rest next to his father during a private interment at Cypress Lawn Memorial Park, in Everett, Washington.
A quote from Edgar Martinez, a player whose quiet perseverance Marc deeply admired: “Every day you have a chance to get better.” May we carry forward Marc’s good work ethic, his quick wit, and his love of the game — one day at a time.
