May Stuthard went to her true home
in Heaven, at the age of 79.
Lolita May Roberts was born on
September 10, 1938, in Kendrick, Idaho. Her parents,
Harold and Corrinah, raised Lolita and her four siblings
on a small farm in remote Northwestern Idaho, called
American Ridge.
After graduating from Kendrick High School in
1955, Lolita moved to Portland to attend Pacific Bible
College. She also worked at Montgomery Wards,
where she met a good looking guy named Richard, who
worked in the hardware department. She married the
love of her life, Richard Stuthard, on August 18, 1962.
In 1965, the newlyweds moved to Astoria, and soon
after were blessed with a daughter, Cynthia, and later
with a son, John.
Richard and Lolita moved their young family back
to Portland in 1968, where Lolita decided to pursue
her dream to become a teacher. She graduated from
Portland State University in 1978 with a Bachelor of
Science degree, and went on to earn her Master’s degree
in education in 1981. Lolita worked as a Title One
teacher at Alder Elementary School in the Reynolds
School District. She taught reading, writing, and math
to thousands of kids during her 24 year career, as well
as English to Japanese exchange students during the
summer. Every week, she faithfully taught Sunday
School at East Hill Church with Richard at her side.
After retiring, Lolita and Richard spent many happy
years enjoying time with their kids and grandkids, trips
to the Oregon Coast, and combining their passions with
serving others. Lolita loved gardening and served as
President of the Petal Pushers Garden Club, Director of
the Multnomah District of Garden Clubs, and Director
of the Junior Garden Club at Ventura Park School. She
was awarded a life membership in the Oregon State
Federation of Garden Clubs. Lolita continued to teach
Sunday school every week, and loved to serve as a
camp counselor at East Hill Church’s summer Bible
camps, where she was always a celebrity with the kids.
Lolita will be lovingly remembered by all of her
friends and family for her wonderful sense of humor,
her love of costumes, hilarious pranks, and her ability
to bring joy into every situation. She had a passion for
many things, but especially for her family, friends,
flowers, and most of all, her Christian faith. Lolita
loved to laugh, she loved her Lord and Savior, and she
loved the people that He put into her life. She lived her
life well, because she loved well.
On Monday, August 20, 2018, Lolita went to her
true home in Heaven, at the age of 79. She temporarily
leaves behind her husband of 56 years, Richard Stuthard
of Gresham; her daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia and
Mike Wall of Sandy; her son and daughter-in-law,
John and Elisabeth Stuthard, and their three children,
Olivia, Quinncy and Lincoln, of Billings, Montana; her
brother and sister-in-law, Orville and Benita Roberts,
of Portland; and many beloved nephews and nieces.
A Memorial Celebration of Life Service will be
held on Saturday, October 20th, at 1:00 p.m. at East
Hill Church in their “Kid City”, located next to the
main building: 701 N. Main Avenue, Gresham, OR
97030.
