Born September 28, 1946 in Minneapolis, Gregg was a graduate of the Benilde-St. Margaret High School, class of 1964. From there he went on to get his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from St. Cloud State University. He later relocated to San Diego where he managed several successful real estate offices before fulfilling his dream retirement job, working as a ballpark usher for Padres Games at Petco Park. He moved to Portland for the last 8 years of his life to live with his daughter and her family.
Gregg loved life and knew how to have fun. He cherished the many treasured friendships he built with people he met at work, in the neighborhood, recovery – basically wherever he interacted with people. Even late in life, he was always a favorite patient of the many kind staff who helped to care for him. Despite many losses and challenges, he leaves behind a legacy of strength, humor, grace, and gratitude.
Gregg was a beloved father, brother, uncle, grandpa, and friend. He is survived by his children and their partners: Chas (Tonya), Rhett (Jodi), Brett (Kerry), and Jenna (Andy) along with 5 grandchildren, his dear brother, John, and many nieces, nephews, and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Dawn, and favorite Uncle Jim, among others.
A celebration of life is being planned for this summer in Minnesota with more details to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests you honor Gregg’s memory with donations to the Humane Society or other local pet rescue organizations.
