Ginger R Pierce of Beaverton, Ore. died on Wednesday, March 14, 2018 at the age of 68. She was born Ginger Rae Effinger on Aug. 3, 1949, in Moorhead, Minn., and died in home hospice after a short hospitalization.
Ginger retired from the Department of Veterans Affairs in 2004 after working for 32 years as a pharmacist. She graduated from North Dakota State University, and never failed to text her daughter when her beloved Bison were playing football on some obscure cable channel at 7 a.m. on a Saturday.
She enjoyed reading and gardening, especially tending her beautiful roses. She also enjoyed photography, and traveling, by motorcycle with her husband, throughout the western States and Canada. In later years she took up European travel by riverboat and cruise ship.
She took her Lutheran faith seriously and was deeply committed to service. She spent time overseas volunteering with orphans in Romania, and on medical missions in The Philippines. Closer to home, in recent years she volunteered at the Bonnie L. Hays Small Animal Shelter in Hillsboro, where she found her much beloved dog, Sienna.
Her volunteer resume is too long to list. She touched many, many lives and left a legacy of caring compassion in her wake.
Ginger married Paul “Red” Pierce Dec. 27, 1975 in Foley, Minn after meeting in San Diego, Calif. They spent 42 years in love and adventure.
She is survived by Spouse P.C. "Red" Pierce, their daughter Rachel Pierce-Young, of Tacoma, Wash. She is further survived by her brother, Kent, sister, Cynthia; multiple cousins, nieces, nephews and grands, as well as by many loving friends, former co-workers, neighbors, and congregants of Community of ChristChurch in Hillsboro.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution in her memory to the Bonnie L. Hays Small Animal Shelter, https://www.co.washington.or.us/HHS/AnimalServices/Donations/donate.cfm
A memorial service will be held at Community of ChristChurch, 5170 NE Five Oaks Drive, Hillsboro Ore. at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 14, 2018.
