12/15/1925 - 9/19/2023
Frank was born in Portales, New Mexico in 1925. At the early age of 17 he joined the U.S. Navy as an Aviation Ordnanceman, Third Class to fight in WWII and the Korean War shortly after that. Honorably discharged both times, he needed a new career path to follow. He worked on cars with his brother Roy for a time before he became a licensed hairdresser. His first job was at a small salon in the San Fernando Valley, but he eventually worked his way up to the top Salon in Glendale, CA where he met and fell in love with Alvera Bell (Peters), his soon-to-be wife.
They were both previously married, but as they were madly in love, in 1962 they ran off to Vegas and tied the knot. Alvera had two daughters (Marilyn and Catherine Bell) from her first marriage and eventually three granddaughters (Laura, De, and Joy) - so between that and the hair salon, he was surrounded by women most of his life after the wars.
Frank had a great sense of humor and loved to make things, like driftwood art and crafts. He also had a passion for singing karaoke - he bought himself a karaoke machine so he could sing his favorite classic songs out in his garage any time of day. And he LOVED his mini schnauzers (he had many over the years), football (he played), and jelly beans (don't tell anyone) … but most importantly he was a simple Christian man devoted to God.
Frank and Alvera enjoyed each other tremendously - laughing and loving each other every day. They worked together at the hair salon until they decided to buy their own salon in Glendale, CA. They enjoyed camping trips at the beach - driving their little camper up and down the coast. As they got close to retirement age Frank realized he needed to prepare for the next big chapter in their lives and decided to go to work for Universal Studios as a backlot tram driver. Ten years later his Motion Picture Industry retirement allowed them to retire comfortably and relocate to the central coast where they built a house and lived happily together until 2012 when Alvera passed away, just shy of their 50-year wedding anniversary.
Frank was heartbroken and sold his home and most of his belongings to make his final move to Lincoln City, Oregon where he lived to be 97 years old. He made lots of friends during this chapter of his long life at his church, Chapel By the Sea and the Lakeview Living home.
Although many believed he would outlive us all (including him), Frank passed away peacefully under hospice care on Tuesday, Sept 19th. He never understood why he lived so long as he longed to be reunited with his love Alvera, but for those who knew him well, it was clear he was here to bring Joy to people’s lives.
Frank is survived by his daughter Catherine Lemoine, niece: LuAnn Smith, granddaughters De Ivett and Laura Harvell and her husband Larry, and his great-grandsons, Xen and Arthur Eldridge.
He will be missed by so many. May he finally rest in peace.
