Delores passed away due to the flu and COPD at the age of 88. Dee enjoyed a fulfilling and rewarding life. She was born to Linda and Dominic Tatone at the nearest hospital in The Dalles, Ore., however, the Tatone family lived in Arlington, Ore. Delores was born into a large and loving family; she was the ninth and youngest child, joining her five brothers and three sisters. Her siblings preceded her in death. After graduating from Arlington High School in 1947, she attended Oregon State University, then moved to Washington D.C. for one year and worked for the federal government. She moved back to Oregon in the mid-1950’s and took a federal position with the Bonneville Power Administration from which she retired after 37 years of service.
Dee met the love of her life, Donald Pfenning, in 1962. They were married in 1963 and enjoyed 40 years of marriage before Don’s death in 2003. Dee and Don had an active social life including long memberships in the Elks Lodge and the Moose Lodge. Dee maintained a close relationship with her siblings and their extended families. She always felt that she was very fortunate to be born into such a loving and supportive family.
Dee is survived by two cousins, Ron Tatone, and Gloria Ives; several nieces; many nephews; and her brother-in-law, Ed Hastings.For the past 18 months, Dee lived at the Fountains Assisted Living in Happy Valley where she was very well cared for by the wonderful staff. A memorial service for Dee will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, March 23, 2018, at St. Anne’s Catholic Church, 1015 S.E. 182nd Ave., Portland, OR 97233. In lieu of flowers, donations in Dee’s memory may be made to the Oregon Humane Society.
