With a heavy heart, this notice of the passing of Dan Roy Greer, is written. Dan left this world after 92+ years of life. He left behind his wife of 66 years, Christel, his son, Bruce, and his daughter, Camille (Dan told her he loved her like the daughter he never had. He was "Daddy'' to her; the father figure she never had growing up). Also surviving him are his sisters-in-law, Helen Greer, Agnes Droste, and Annamarie Hutton, as well as many nieces and nephews from the Greer and Droste families.
Preceding his passing were his parents, Joseph and Ima Greer, his siblings Anita, Grant, Ray, Leora, and Glen. Also his father and mother in-law Wilhelm and Else Droste, and brother in-law Gunter Droste. Robert Hutton, his other brother in-law, died 10 days after him.
Dan enlisted in the US Navy at 17-1/2 years of age, performing carpenter duties in Hawaii during WWII. Dan met Christel in Houston, TX and they married in June 1952. A year later, Bruce was born in Spokane, WA. The family moved to Seattle shortly thereafter. Dan was attending night school and working construction at the time. In 1956, he got a job at the Boeing Renton plant as an architectural engineer (he had two years of college engineering courses before marrying Christel). He supported many projects in the Puget Sound area, including Boeing Field, Kent, and the early build-up of the Everett site. While continuing to work full time, he finished a BS in Business Administration in 1984. After 35 years at Boeing, he retired.
Dan was a convert to the Roman Catholic Church, but was a strong believer of the faith, the teachings of the Church, and supporter of the four parishes he was part of during his life. He was the steady strength of the family, slow to anger, honest, knew and practiced integrity, and was, in general, a man of good character, seldom found in others today. His work ethic was an example for all to follow, as was his giving of love, loyalty, and help to those closest to him.
His presence will be missed by those that knew Dan, but memories of his love will help fill the void for those that loved him.
