Born July 13, 1926 in Madison, Wis., to Willard and Florence Reeves. Barbara grew up in Minnesota. In June 1947 she received her BA in Sociology from Macalester College and married Richard "Dick" Dingle. Dick's position on the Forestry faculty at WSU brought them to Pullman, where she was active in the Presbyterian Church and AAUW, while raising their two daughters. She worked at the Campus YWCA at WSU for 18 years, providing volunteer and social justice opportunities and a listening ear for women students. She offered a second home to many "adopted" young people. Her great joys were family, friends, cooking and baking, photography and travel especially, Elder Hostels and cross-country road trips visiting people and parks. Barbara will be missed for her fabulous dinner parties, gentle good nature, humor and consummate skill with Scrabble.
Barbara is survived by daughters, Mary Nan and Judith (Robert); grandchildren, Amanda, Bethany (Daniel) and Erica (Stephen) of Portland, Jacob of Austin, Texas; great-grandchildren, Faire and Cantor; sister, Mary Pruitt of St. Paul, Minn.; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Dick (2008); and daughter-in-law, Barbara "Tillay" (2016).
A memorial service is planned for 2 p.m., July 21, 2018, in Pullman, Wash., at Gladish Community Center, in the View Room. Memorial donations may be made to: YWCA of Portland https://www.ywcapdx.org/ or Heifer International https://www.heifer.org/
