Audrey Eileen Underdahl

stroke while on a 30-mile bike ride. She was an exuberant 85.

Born in Buffalo, NY, Audrey and her sister Evelyn were raised by their mother Ethel Baxendale,

who moved them often in search of better opportunity. Audrey attended 19 grade schools, eventually

landing at Beaumont Elementary School in Portland. She graduated from Grant High School in 1951 and

married Kenneth Underdahl in 1952. Audrey and Ken had five daughters and a son while living almost 50

years in the Riverdale neighborhood. They were dedicated parents to their children, instilling values of

hard work, resilience, positivity and the value of an education.

After all her kids were in school, Audrey enrolled in college herself, earning both a Bachelor’s

Degree from Marylhurst College and a Masters Degree from University of Portland. She enjoyed a long

teaching career in Lake Oswego.

Audrey was a remarkable woman who made an impression on everyone she met. Her zest and

enthusiasm for life were contagious. Travel and athletic pursuits defying her age were her passion! Her

interests were vast: skiing, cycling, camping, hiking, tennis, worldwide travel, cooking, and most of all,

her family. She was a community leader in many ways - Riverdale Ski School, Field Day and Summer

Tennis programs and a devoted parishioner of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church. More recently, she

was an avid member of Cascade Prime Timers, the Portland Bike Bunch, Mt. Park Tennis and a regular

volunteer at the Albertina Kerr Foundation.

Audrey was fortunate to share her life with Bill Rosenfeld for the last seven years. They found

great companionship, enjoying travel, culture and a shared sense of humor.

She is survived by her sister Evelyn Koules, her children: Sally Chamberlain (Russ), Dana Nishitani

(Tim), Louise Good Markland (Bob), Gretchen Wagner (Geoff), Randi Durkheimer Schreyer (Fred), and

Rees Underdahl (Carrie); her 17 grandchildren: Jessica Ulrich (Dave), Tyler Nishitani (Natalie), Stacy

Maloney (Mike), Billy Schreyer, Cory Markland (Molly), Michael Durkheimer (Paula), Dreamer Markland

(Amara), Rachel Wagner, Erica Nishitani (Ricky), Jordan Good (Katelynn), Haley Visk (Tom), Liz Schreyer,Charlie Wagner, Alec Durkheimer, Jacqueline Wagner, Kayla Good, and Grace Underdahl; and her sixgreat-grandchildren: Cameron Ulrich, Kate Ulrich, Jacob Maloney, Zeta Nishitani, Caladin Good and Gavin Ulrich. Audrey joins her husband of 57 years, Kenneth Underdahl and great-grandson Avery

Anderson in heaven.

A funeral mass will be held on Friday, September 28th at 1:00 pm at Our Lady of the Lake

Catholic Church, 650 ‘A’ Avenue, Lake Oswego, Oregon followed by a reception. Remembrances may be

made to the Albertina Kerr Foundation or Friends of the Columbia Gorge in her name.
