Thomas Alan Horan

Thomas Alan Horan, 79, of Muskegon, Michigan, passed away surrounded by his family on Saturday, June 20, 2026. A beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, Tom will be remembered for his unwavering work ethic, generous spirit, and devotion to those he loved.

Tom was born on July 29, 1946, in Lackawanna, New York. He attended Saint Mary’s Catholic School and graduated from Muskegon Catholic Central in 1964. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps from 1966 to 1969. Following his military service, Tom attended Western Michigan University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Engineering in 1973.

Tom enjoyed a successful career with Meijer Corporation, retiring in 2001 after nearly 40 years of dedicated service. Never one to sit still, he continued working in a variety of roles after retirement which included: customer service at Home Depot, a licensed real estate agent, and an inspector for Muskegon-Oceana Community Action Partnership (MOCAP).

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Tom found great joy in traveling the country with his cherished wife, Darlene. He was also deeply committed to serving his community through volunteer work with the Jaycees of Lansing and Muskegon, the Lions Club, and the American Red Cross.

Tom is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Darlene Horan (Galinski), his children: Kimberly Boersema, Kelly (Chris) Hopkins, Tonia (Brian) Essenberg, and Jeffrey (Michelle) Mier, his fourteen grandchildren: Addison, Courtney, Alaina, Jett, Gage, Josie, Zachary, Mason, Chase, Corey, Nathan, Kayla, Aneesa, and Abriel. He is also survived by his brother, Tim (Shawn) Horan; his sister, Chris Squires; his brother-in-law, Ron Jensen; and many nieces and nephews.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Orva Horan, and his sister, Kay Jensen.

Tom’s legacy of hard work, service, kindness, and love for family will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
