Sean was born in Kalamazoo on November 7, 1958 to parents Donald Hagerman and Marie Clancy-Hagerman and was the youngest of seven children. After graduating from Portage Northern High School, Sean worked as a paramedic and later attended Michigan State University where he sparked a lifelong love of learning and received degrees in Biological Sciences and Chemistry. He continued with his strong worth ethic and helpful spirit serving honorably as a Major in the U.S. Army Reserves for over 20 years while simultaneously building a decorated career in sales, most recently at Jackson Tumble Finish.
In all areas of his life, Sean’s sense of humor, selflessness and generosity of spirit deeply touched the lives of all he met. He was a problem-solver who often took on difficult and unwanted projects at work and around the house and dedicated his life to maximizing opportunities for others. His many enjoyments included watching MSU sports, music jam sessions, working outside, sharing a plate of nachos, traveling, and most of all spending quality time with his wife and children.
Sean will be loved and missed by his surviving family; devoted wife and partner for 34 years, Diane; son, Blair (Alexandra); daughter, Dana; brothers, Greg (Pat) and Boyd (Yuki); and sisters, Maureen (John) and Priscilla (Larry). He is predeceased by his parents and two brothers Samuel and Mark.
In lieu of funeral services and to honor Sean's wish that his estate be used for others, rather than himself, donations may be made to the Sean Hagerman Scholarship Fund at 2821 Dellridge Drive, Holt, MI 48842 or alternatively via PayPal to PayPal.Me/SHagermanScholarship. Proceeds will be used to help fund post-secondary education opportunities via scholarship(s) for local high school student(s) who best demonstrate Sean’s valued pillars of 1) Academic Excellence; 2) Community Service; and 3) Athletic Achievement.
