Mary Jayne Gross, a beautiful baby girl, was born on September 22, 1941and Herbert Bush was given the news. He was now a big brother. At first he was excited to share his life with her... then a few years later she bit a doctor and he realized he was in the danger zone. After several years of attempting to tame the beast, he gave up, she was a stubborn, opinionated woman who told it like it was. She was married afterwards 3 beautiful children were born. Two girls and one boy.
Unfortunately, not all marriages work out. She then met her dark haired Prince Charming Alva Gross. They did many things together such as ice fishing, snow mobiling, and hunting. Al couldn't believe his luck to find a woman who loved the same things he did and put a ring on it. Feb giving her 5 step kids and literally giving him 3 red headed step children.
After marriage and their only son together was born, she decided she had Prince Charming just where she had him and admitted she actually did not like fishing that much, and was in fact scared of small boats and liked being warm. This led her to taking up other hobbies such as playing cards (solitaire in particular) and watching crime shows. After some time grandpa got nervous about all the different ways she could get rid of him (thank you investigation ID), he insisted together they join safer hobbies such as bowling and square dancing.
Once their children were grown, reality hit where she realized no children means more chores. To get out of the chores she decided to try working and became a clerk at a convenience store while plotting the smart way to an early retirement plan.
Then a legend was born. Her first grandchild. She felt so lucky to have such a well behaved helpful little worker bee and was so excited to have three more grandchildren follow suit. Once her granddaughters got older and could actually express their opinions and emotions she realized she was in deep. They were mini versions of herself. It was at this time she felt it was important to leave Michigan and take off to Florida for gaspirilla and Mardi Gras fun along with cruises, casinos, swimming, and friends. Throughout the years she was the most giving person to those who deserved it.
No one can forget her. Say what you want, but she made an impression. You’d always know how she felt about you, due to her impressive range of facial expressions and the ability to tell you exactly what she thought.
She used these valuable traits to ensure she had many great grand children to spoil. She scared some lucky guys into marrying her granddaughters. One day she met her buddy Colton and her stubborn opinionated self-melted right into the palm of his hand. Best friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert & Irene bush-Elliot and Thomas Elliot (stepfather after death of father); obedient loving husband, Alva gross; and her sister from another mister, Rose bazell. She is survived by her loving brother, Herbert (Darlene) bush; daughters, Christine (Terry Doxey), Virginia (Diego) Garza; two sons, Bill (Jeannie) Drum and Alva (Mia) Gross; two step sons, Creighton and Brian Gross; along with 16 grandchildren; and 5 great grandchildren.
On July 14, 2018 after ensuring she was surrounded by her family. There were a few snags, but she realized she was happiest being surrounded by all of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was ready for her grand send off. It would be hard on everyone, but she was ready to go bowling and square dancing with Alva again.
Please join us in remembering her by planting a rose bush in her honor and sharing memories on August 25, 2018 at 3:00 pm. This will take place in her happy place at The Lighthouse Village, 1001 24 Mile Rd. Homer, MI 49245 in the pavilion. Please RSVP to [email protected] by August 18th to ensure you are put on guest list at the gate or you will not be able to enter.
At a later date she will be re-united with her excited husband in Bushnel, Florida for a private service.
Let’s celebrate the woman who didn’t let a stroke or aneurysm get her down. She was only getting in that ambulance with the promise of a stop at The Dark Horse for a beer.
Raise your glass to Mary Gross. Wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Cheers!
