He is survived by his loving children, Kenneth (Natividad), Deborah Jean Herbst, Betty Jane (Bob) Leeuw, Judith Kay (David) Rich, Mark Steven Clay, Daniel Scott Clay and Elgin Robert Clay. Beloved grandfather of 16, great-grandfather of 14 and 2 Great-great grandchildren. He holds a special place in his heart for Betty Jean Conrad.
Enlisting in the US Army on August 4, 1948, he was a Field Lineman who saw battle at and was wounded in the Chosin Reservoir, Korea. He worked as the Food Service Supervisor, Fort Trotten NY. In 1953 he made the rank of Sargent First Class. He served in later years in the National Guard in Wyoming, MI.
While in the Military, he received the following awards:
Purple Heart, Good conduct Medal (Second Award), Navy Presidential Unit Citation, Republic of Korea War Service Medal, Korean Service Ribbon, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Army of Occupation Medal, Combat Infantry Badge and Service Medal.
He will be eternally loved and forever missed by those who knew and loved him.

The service will be held at the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans, 3000 Monroe Avenue, Grand Rapids, MI on Thursday, November 7, 2019 at 1:00 pm with the family visitation beginning at 12:30 pm. Father Peter Vu will be officiating.
Interment will take place in Mendon Cemetery, Pendleton, IN.
