Jimmy Bode

He is the youngest of five children . He is a twin with his sister, Jane Bode Fowler. Parents were Herman and Leona Bode, he was born on January 10, 1938, in Grant.

Jim retired from General Motors, 36th Street Plant as an electrician on May 1, 1998, after 20.9 years of service. He was a member of the Newaygo United Methodist Church, Life member of the VFW, a member of the American Legion for 55 consecutive years, and a member of the Newaygo County Sportsman’s Club. He loved fishing and hunting in his younger days as well as line dancing with his wife in the North Country Kickers Line dance group. After his retirement they bought a motor home and traveled through several states in the USA including spending a month in Alaska sight-seeing and fishing. Eventually settling in Arizona City, AZ where they bought a home and spent 19 years enjoying the beauty of the desert on their 4 wheelers along with many friends they met at the Arizona City Moose Lodge #1038.

He served in the United States Navy for 12 years 9 months from 1955 – 1958 then from 1966 – 1976. He was an electrician aboard 4 different aircraft carriers. He is a Vietnam Veteran who proudly served his country.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Leona Bode; brothers, Herman Jr, and Alfred; one sister, Dorothy Westbrook. Surviving is his wife, Mildred Joan (Jo); twin sister, Jane Bode Fowler; children and stepchildren, Marquita Rager (Chris), Kevin Bode, Edmund Jackson (Tammy), Anthony Jackson (Sharon) and Scott Jackson; sister-in-law, Cecilia (Sue) Bode; and several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

He had requested there be no funeral services at this time. However, there will be a Celebration of Life sometime this Summer. Date and location to be determined.
