Hank was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He was born in Detroit, MI on September 26, 1948 to Henry E. Zavislak and Irene (Polchowski) Zavislak. He moved to Jackson in 1973 and was elected as the youngest sheriff in Jackson County history in 1980. Hank spent the remainder of his career in dedicated service to the people of Jackson County. He served as sheriff for 22 years and then prosecutor for an additional 10 years before retiring to his “happy place” Saugatuck, MI. During his career Hank was known as a tireless worker and mentor to many.
In his free time Hank loved perusing local meat markets including Prime Cuts in Jackson and Bob’s Country meats in South Haven and spending time on the water, including white-water rafting and boating on Lake Michigan on his boat Second Chance. He also enjoyed traveling with his wife, Lynn, and unapologetically spoiling his grandchildren, whom he loved with all his heart.
Hank will be remembered for his kind heart and generous spirit and always putting the needs of others before his own. He had a way of making everyone feel welcome and loved and you never went away from his house hungry. His warmth and compassion touched the lives of many and his legacy will live on in the memories of those who knew him and loved him.
Hank is survived by his loving wife, Lynn, sons Jon (Kim) and Adam (Paige), and grandchildren Maryn (his Princess), Griffin, Nolan, Chase and Grady, who will miss their Papa dearly. He is also survived by his brothers Steve (Karen), Ron (Maki), and Rich (Sandy) Zavislak and loving niece Kay (Shannon) Zavislak and great nephew Noah.
The family will hold a private memorial at a later date.
