Ellis worked at and retired from the Brown Company/James River Corporation after close to 40 years serving primarily as a transportation manager, and he was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He had a strong passion for sports, playing collegiate baseball (and, technically, basketball) at Kalamazoo College (from which he proudly graduated), bowling into his late 70’s-early 80’s, and playing competitive softball, including decades of travel ball, into his 90th year. Ellis always treasured the relationships he made through both his sports activities and church community.
Ellis was preceded in death by his parents; and each of his eight older siblings (two additional siblings died in infancy). Surviving are his wife, Sharon; children, Greg Cutler, Randy Cutler, and Melissa Cutler; step-children, Lanny Johnston, Jr. and Locki Deurruita; grandchildren, Erin, Stephanie, Ian Matthew Sr, Jason, Ashley, Tyler, Benjamin, Ryan, and Alyssa; and great grandchildren, Avery, Ian Matthew Jr., Adelyn, Jaylen, Kylie, Maria, Olivia, and Alexander.
A brief visitation will be held at 11am prior to the memorial service to begin at 11:30am on Tuesday, September 8th at Trinity Lutheran Church, 2055 Columbia Ave E, Battle Creek, MI 49014. A luncheon will follow the service.
Memorial contributions may be made in honor of Ellis Cutler to Trinity Lutheran Church (tlcbattlecreek.org).
