The son of Beatrice and Elton Ashburn, he was born June 29, 1959 in Muskegon. He enjoyed listening to rock and roll. One of his favorite songs being white wedding the song that was played at his wedding. He loved drinking a cup of coffee in the morning and enjoying a smoke with his “ex wife” Debra Ashburn who he loved so dearly. He loved Gardening because of his parents … Even if he would water the plants too much and have the sprinkler running all day. He’d remind us how he knows how to garden since he’s been doing it before his grandkids were born and then picked an unripe purple pepper to eat. He enjoyed long walks and picking flowers along the way for all the women in his life he loved and cared about.
He loved going down to the river and passing time with his brothers Ron and Richard. He would tell us how much he enjoyed hanging out with his cousins, John, Deb and their daughter, Jennifer (Ferfer) who he loved very much and would tell us how funny it was that she’d get mad when he’d call her Ferfer. He enjoyed helping pick up the town he stayed in. As well as helping local restaurants who would in return give him free fish. He’d spend hours talking about so many stories he loved, which would lead into more stories. He would talk about the time his son Michael saved his life after he fell out of a tree. He’d mention times with his sister Barb brothers and family up in Holton where they had so many get togethers throughout his life. He’d mention days spent with his siblings at the red barn and how one day the river that sits by it is where he’d like to be place in the end. He was always so truthful but joked around alot and never missed a chance to make a smart remark to anyone. Also made sure everyone knew how strong he was, that he could get through anything, knock anyone down and that he was a heartbreaker and got allll the ladies because “the ladies love him”. Those are just some of his hobbies.
Regardless of what Doug has been through he was a good man. His kindness, love for his family, and strength still showed and shined through till his very last day with us.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Beatrice; father, Elton; and little brother, Johnny. Surviving is his son, Douglas Jr.; daughter, Crystle; step-children, summer and Michael; grandkids, Daylen, Alaynna, Jaden "JJ" "J-Bird", Kalee "Lady", Lynzee "Winnie pooper",Rogen, Madison, Ethan; and great granddaughter, Nova. We will all remember him.
