Dian Louise Cardew Jansma, age 84, of Holland, MI, passed away on Wednesday, December 24, 2025 at Poppen Hospice Residence in Muskegon, MI, surrounded by family. The daughter of Orion and Erma Cardew, she was born on January 24, 1941 in Cass City, Michigan.
Dian grew up in Cass City, MI where her parents were both teachers at the local school. She attended Cass City High School before graduating from Alma College in 1963 with a teaching degree. She treasured the years at Alma College where she forged lifetime friendships. Dian had a fruitful career working as a dedicated teacher, adviser and consultant, and retired from Bloomfield Hills Public Schools in 2005. She was a 50-year member of P.E.O. Sisterhood, an organization that supports and uplifts women’s education, and whose mission Dian cherished. She was active in the Presbyterian Church (in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan and Green Valley, Arizona) and later attended Fellowship Reformed Church in Holland with her late husband Don, as well as Pillar Church.
Dian delighted in entertaining friends and family, planning parties and crafting delicious meals, such as outdoor picnics. She loved to laugh and bring people together around a beautifully set table. She had a flair for interior decorating, and lovely, stylish clothing. Despite several health conditions, she remained quite active until her final days, living a full life at The Warm Friend in downtown Holland.
She was preceded in death by her parents; aunt, Vera Hoadley and husband, Rev. Donald Jansma. Surviving are her children, Geoff (Michelle) Johnson of Spring Lake and Libby (John) Hartley of Black River; and grandchildren, Laura, Garryn, and Emma Johnson and Wynn Hartley.
A Celebration of Life service is planned for 1pm on Thursday, April 30th, at Pillar Church, 57 E 10th St. Holland, MI. Please join her family for refreshments at a reception immediately following the service.
