A couple of weeks ago, our world changed forever. William John Patton III, "Bill", suffered an unexpected stroke on Saturday, May 13th. On Monday, May 22, Bill left this world for his next great adventure. Anyone that knew him, knew that he was a person with a larger-than-life personality. He lived to explore and experience the fun in life. He was always willing to hand out advice (whether you asked for it or not). He loved his family fiercely and they were his greatest joy. He was an avid hunter, fisher, and outdoorsman with a true love for nature (especially rocks). We were lucky to have him and we are all heartbroken to see him leave.
Bill was born in California on August 3rd, 1946 to William and Margaret Patton (McCarthy). He moved to Minnesota as a small child and grew up in Faribault with his four brothers and sister. He served in the United States Navy during Vietnam. After returning to Minnesota, he moved to St. Cloud, where he met and fell in love with Alice (Derus). They were married for just shy of 52 years and have two children, William (Michelle) and Elizabeth. Bill was an extremely devoted "Papa" to his four grandchildren; Spencer, Sofia, Claire, and Liam. He was also a very loyal dog dad to his little buddy, Bennie.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents William and Margaret, his sister Patricia, and his brother Timothy.
We want to thank everyone for their condolences as we move through this difficult time. We especially have enjoyed hearing stories of Bill and how he made an impact on their lives. He will be greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers, please consider supporting Ducks Unlimited. He was a Life Sponsor and Committee Co-Chair in Saint Cloud Sponsors and also later with Heart of the Lakes Chapter in Annandale/Maple Lake. A donation box will be available at the Celebration to be donated in his name.
