Enlisted in the Army at 17, with his best friend Bob Schreibe, Victor joined WWII as a paratrooper in the 11th Airborne Division, known as, “The Angels.” He dispatched to the Pacific theater, engaged in the historic Battles of Leyte, Manila, and Luzon and was present at the U.S.S. Missouri in Tokyo for the signing of the Peace Agreement. Vic returned from the war to his hometown of Wichita, Kansas, “without a scratch,” arriving home to Christmas lights on the tree on his mother’s birthday, January 11, 1946.
His love for aircraft and everything flight evolved into obtaining his commercial pilot’s license and a 40-year career with Northwest Airlines as an aircraft mechanic stationed between MSP, SEATAC and back to MSP, in sync with best friend, Bob. Vic loved his family, his home, his motorcycles (stored across the country to escape Minnesota winters), his 25+ years volunteering for Meals on Wheels and Bridging, skydiving into his 90’s, Dixieland and New Orleans Jazz, and 4:00 Happy Hours where laughter could be heard carrying out to the street.
He was a great Dad, a best friend, a funny man, confidante and advisor and arguably the luckiest man on earth. Victor lived life beyond his dreams and on his own terms until his last breath and final jump when, surrounded by loved ones, he took flight with the Angels in the presence of our Lord Jesus on January 11, 2025. Happy Birthday, Grandma Chrissie.
